So Lippies and Palettes and Brushes…

So as we’ve established before, I love makeup. I don’t wear it daily, but I love the artistry of it. But make no mistake… A love of makeup comes with a price tag… From drug store brands to higher end luxury products, purchases can really add up. I mean when one of your fave MUAs features a product, you want it… When watching a live tutorial, inevitably come the requisite questions… What is that? Where did you buy it? How much did it cost? I mean you want what you want and you want what she used to get that look… that you also want.

Wanting a few items is fine… Just a few right? Sure. So what do you need? Of course you need a foundation. Can’t build anything without a proper foundation. Not a marriage, a church, a house or a clothing look and definitely not a well done face! Do you go to Walmart or Walgreens, ULTA or Sephora or hit up the MAC counter? Guess what? It doesn’t matter. Do you. They all have good products. Do like me and hit them all up!

What’s next? Who wants a face without well groomed brows? They frame the face. So you just an eyebrow pencil or powder or pomade… Or all of thee above… And don’t forget a concealer to carve that brow out… So we have a few items to get so far…

We’ll also need to get our lip look(s) together… Just a lipstick or two or three, a few liners, maybe a gloss.  Will you go matte or shiny? Do like me and do both!

Oh and our eyes. Can’t forget our eyes! All we need is a palette or a few. I will not admit how many eye palettes I currently own. I love an eye palette. I don’t know what it is about them… It’s like limitless opportunities… The more tutorials and pictures I see, the more I want. Oh and don’t forget primers, lashes, mascara, liners… Pick you up a mix of those, too.

And then there’s brushes… Why do I love brushes so much? I really cannot say. You always think I want that look, so I need those exact brushes… It’s the skill though. Not the brushes… Thats what I just told you, but I still want those brushes. ??? You don’t have to go for ultra expensive brushes. I have purchased brushes along a range of price points… I’ve gotten individual brushes and brush sets… Awww, heck. Be like me and get them all!

So you may ask yourself what is my return on investment? Why buy this stuff? One when I want to be cute with a full face, I have everything I need to pull one off. When I want to be cute without a full face, I do just that. Secondly, I can sometimes sit back and work on my makeup and it’s so relaxing… It’s like reading or knitting: a relaxing hobby… Third and probably most importantly, I want it and sometimes, we just have to treat ourselves to a few things that we want. Anyone who knows me knows that it is So Corinthia to treat myself…

So what things do you like to treat yourself with on occasion? Leave a comment and let’s talk. We all may find some other things and activities to enjoy.

  1. I spent 15+ years being a makeup professional in Arizona. I am still amazed and inspired how this industry continues to evolve and capture the attention of people worldwide. Like you, Corinthia I LOVE palletes and brushes. LIKE LOVE ! I have so much it’s borderline ridiculous! I have disciplined myself to stare instead of shop due to how much I have versus how much I can actually use. I love your blogs and your warm way of drawing us into your love of all things makeup!

  2. I love your excitement about makeup. I have found a new love in Ulta, but I still find it a chore to make sure I apply lipstick. My first mistake is leaving the house without applying. Then I get bombarded as soon as I enter my office, that means I don’t even think about applying it until around lunch break. I going to make a note to do better because I love the new shades I have purchased recently.

    1. Interestingly. I rarely apply my lipstick until I’ve left home… You can catch me plenty of days without it though!

  3. So, in reading this, I’ve learned something new: eyebrows frame the face. I will see if I can apply that knowledge on my next portrait photo session. But I might need another camera, or at least a new lens, to fully investigate that eyebrow concept… To answer your question, I treat myself to a new gadget, every now and then…
