So Corinthia the author…

So back in 1994 while on a summer engineering internship in Mississippi, I had a lot of spare time, and I got an idea. Instead of just reading novels, I’ll write one! I grabbed a pen and a notebook and started. The novels (because there were several) were all love stories/romance novels… Only 19 years old with limited romantic experience?? No problem. I had been reading those books for years. Certainly more years than my mother knew!! I could do this. Easy peasy.

Let’s just say that I have a collection of unfinished romantic short stories… ?? Apparently writing books isn’t as easy as reading them. Who knew? Who knew that you could read 2000 novels and not be able to just easily knock one out by hand over the summer on legal pads?? All of this time invested and nothing, huh? I know… What was I thinking?

I was in Engineering school at the time, so once I went back to FAMU, free time was rare, so those manuscripts (if they can even earn that auspicious title) were relegated to a folder. I never even told anyone about them for years, and only one or two people have ever seen or read them. Some of my close friends and family may be reading this right now and just hearing this for the first time.

Over the years, I’ve often thought of finishing those first attempts, and a couple of years ago, I even started a Christian romance novel that I got much farther on than those older ones. I even upgraded to typing from the pen and pads. Still I stalled after a while. Then I was expecting and a new mother and once again, uninterrupted free time was at a premium. Maybe that’s just an excuse though. Throughout life, I’ve rarely started projects and not finished them. I’m generally a get it done type of person. People think sometimes ‘I need this knocked out. Corinthia will get it done.’ Or at least I think they think that . I’m a professional project manager for goodness sakes.

I am going to dust off that most current novel and start back working on it. Soon…Maybe I need some guidance or a writing mentor or something?? Maybe I just need to read about 50 more and that will give me the push I need…

So what do you think?? Should I get back to writing or just stick to reading? Let me know in the comments section. I look forward to hearing what you guys think.

  1. It’s much more difficult than most understand. I’m in a FB writing group led by Connie Brisco. She offers insightful tips on character development and how to manage writer’s block. And it’s free.

  2. Great read. I have several writings that could turn into blogs in journals. I will get it together soon as well. I look forward to reading your novelsssss.

    1. Oh Emm Ghee,
It would be a great reading experience!! I’m sure that with your mind it would be a genuine page turner. Awaiting Release Date…

  3. Yes—get back to it. If you already have a great many unfinished romance pieces, you can finish them as short stories and put them all into one book of short romance stories—give us some quick injections of romance—a story here and there that we can finish during short plane rides or even on our way to and from the office. Anyway, my vote is to keep it going, ma’am!

  4. Gets to writing/typing, ma’am!! What happens to a dream deferred? If that chick can “write” the Fifty Shades series, I KNOW you can do it! Don’t be diverted.

  5. I definitely feel like you should write! I just can’t decide if there should be a character based on me, or something… Who am I kidding… the world already has a Blank Panther…

  6. I’m gonna need for you to get to finishing, young lady!! Can’t wait to read them, yes them!! 😁😁
