So Makeup Therapy…

So we all have or should have some activities that we can use as our own form of DIY therapy.. You know a quick retreat away from the rigors and stresses of life. Some of us might use shopping or reading. Others may use exercise or eating. Hunting, knitting, decorating, singing, dancing, tennis, hiking… There are countless options. Mine include reading, watching TV, prayer and games on my iPad.

Of the several that I indulge in, one is simply sitting down and doing my makeup when I am not preparing to go out. See when you’re going out, you have to get the makeup right and complete. Not so if you’re not headed out.  Just get the brushes and palettes, blenders and liners, foundations and concealers and practice the art. I suppose it’s no different than anyone who likes to paint on a canvas. I don’t paint, but I can imagine it can be very relaxing as a hobby. In this case, the makeup is the paint and my face is the canvas, and I can do anything I’d like with my work of art for the night. I can do nudes and neutrals or I can do bright and shiny. I can cut my crease or just work with the hooded lids I was born with. I can use contour and highlight to give myself a whole different face shape… Well some people can. I’m not that skilled. But you get my drift. There are countless instructions, tutorials, guidelines but when it really comes down to it, there are no real rules. Not in my opinion. You do what you want to do and look how you want to look.

So I have an active toddler, and it’s not so simple now to whip out my cosmetics and get to work because he loves to play with any and everything that he can get his cute little hands on it so you can imagine he doesn’t just play quietly in a corner while I’m playing with my toys!  But tonight, I saw an opening and took advantage. I am a student of many makeup artists and several of them use a method known as the 3 in 1 method to do their foundation, highlight and contour in one step, so I decided I wanted to try that method and break out my new eye brushes and new Morphe 35O2 palette.

So new method, new brushes and new eye palette! Sounds like a great night. Check out the pictures and tell me what you think. I like the overall results.
My makeup isn’t perfect. The eye liner didn’t want to cooperate. I’m still working on my contour and highlight skills but guess what? It was a fun, quick activity just for ME. Mission Accomplished.

  5. I like the look. I tend to panic when it comes to doing my makeup because I have limited skills. Maybe I should just play around in my spare time and see what happens.

    1. That’s what you have to do. You have to practice when you’re not going out so you’re not stressed about not loving the results. You stick with what you know when you are headed out.
